Palnitkar US Trip Alaska, Yellowstone, Rocky Mountain – May 2021

Anu and I visited the US in May 2021 to attend Sahil’s graduation in computer science from Texas A&M university in College Station, Texas. I worked during the weekdays and visited many parts of the US with Aditya and Sahil during Fridays and weekends. We had a memorable trip. During the entire trip we managed to do 12 treks of varying lengths. The map below shows the locations that we visited in the US.

May 6-11, 2021: Washington DC

We landed in Washington DC on Thu, May 6 and visited Anu’s brother in Ashburn, VA. Since we were preparing for the John Muir Trail trek in California in Aug 2021, Anu, Meenal (Anu’s sister in law) and I did 4 consecutive treks on Friday (10 km), Sat (16 km), Sun (16 km) and Monday (10 km) to practice as a team. Aditya joined us in Washington DC.

May 11- 13: Houston, College Station

Aditya, Anu and I landed in Houston on May 11. We spent one day in Houston and then attended Sahil’s graduation ceremony at Texas A&M on May 13.  Here is a link to a detailed blog.

May 14-16: Denver, Boulder, Rocky Mountain National Park

We flew to Denver on Fri, May 14. We spent Friday in Colorado Springs and Saturday in Rocky Mountain National Park  doing 2 treks. We spent Sunday meeting Omkar Purandare (friend’s son), trekked Flatirons and visited University of Colorado, Boulder. Here is a link to a detailed blog.

May 17-21: Houston

We spent that entire week in Houston. I was working. Aditya took me to a shooting range on Thu, May 20. That was a very interesting experience. Here is a link to a detailed blog about my shooting experience.

Friday afternoon, we flew to Fairbanks Alaska.

May 21-27: Alaska, Fairbanks, Anchorage, Seward

We spent the entire week in Alaska and explored the length of Alaska from Fairbanks down to Seward. We visited Fairbanks, Denali National Park, Talkeetna, Anchorage, Whittier, Portage Lake, Potter Marsh, Turnagain Arm and Matanuska Glacier trek. We also did a Mt. Denali viewing flight with glacier landing. Aditya and I worked on all weekday mornings and starting at about 5.30 am and finishing by 1 pm Alaska time. We got enough time to explore. We flew from Anchorage on Thu, May 27 night and landed in Salt Lake City on Fri, May 28 at 7 am.

May 28 – June 1: Grand Teton, Yellowstone, Bozeman

Anu, Sahil and I flew back Bozeman -> San Francisco -> Delhi -> Pune on June 1, 2021.
